This area is fine. Some shops are within walking distance, others need to be reached by car. They don't have very good health insurance here. Depending on where you live, this neighborhood can be quiet and peaceful. The colleges are ok, they are quite expensive because most of them are private.

I like Poughkeepsie because it's safe and well connected. However, a car is a must. Everything is within a decent distance, usually 5-15 minutes, sometimes up to 30 minutes. I really like the safety in Poughkeepsie because there are rarely dangerous hazards there. Of course, no area is completely safe, but I feel relatively safe here.
One complaint I can have is the lack of things to do. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, and Splashdown and the Poughkeepsie Galleria shopping center are nearby. But after a while these things get a bit boring. For me, I don't mind the services we have nearby, but for some, it can become mundane after a while.
Other than that, I'm very lucky to live in Poughkeepsie and it's a great place to settle down and start a 'normal', carefree and peaceful life. But if you want more excitement, another place like New York might be a better place.

Poughkeepsie is a medium-sized city on the Hudson River. It's not so small that you know everyone, but you don't walk down the street without seeing some friendly faces. All the people are very kind and welcoming to both locals and visitors.

I live and work here. there is a strong sense of community here, which is probably the most positive aspect. some areas are not the safest. In addition, the land is gentrified and the inhabitants of life can no longer live here.

It has a beautiful historic backdrop with many sightseeing opportunities along the scenic Hudson River. Unfortunately, there has been a slight increase in crime in the area, which is of concern to some residents.

I lived near Poughkeepsie for a while before moving back upstate. It's usually not the best neighborhood, especially the further you get into the town of Poughkeepsie itself. Can be very dangerous, homelessness and crime. The only decent part of Poughkeepsie is right in front of Marist and just behind WAPPINGERS, close to malls, starbucks etc. The traffic can be very bad and can be congested but the area is cheap to live in so I guess there's a pro here? I really enjoy living in Poughkeepsie but wish we had more things to do for the community. I live just outside the town of Poughkeepsie so I went to Roy C. Ketcham School on the border of Wappingers Falls and Poughkeepsie and loved going there in my high school years. I was allowed to help at one of the senior centers in Poughkeepsie at the RCK club. All we really need to do here in Poughkeepsie is go bowling at Alley Cat or go to the Poughkeepsie Gallery. While I like the Poughkeepsie Gallery, seeing the same shops over and over again becomes relatively repetitive. I would like to see more arcades, parks and concerts. It would definitely boost morale in the region exponentially. Even having a community house would be great, especially for young people's lives.

A quaint college town on the Hudson River with stunning views and lots to do. It is a relatively metropolitan area, with shops and markets everywhere.

There seems to have been some attempt at improvement and progress over time, but many parts of this city are stuck in the past. Outside the city center, there are very nice and safe areas in the town of Poughkeepsie itself. There are good schools and many employment opportunities in the area. Sometimes it gets crowded in the car, but usually it's no worse than any other city of its size. Although the city is not the best, the many attractions in the area and its location make it a little better. Lots of nature and fun things to do outside if you can find it.

I love the city of Poughkeepsie. It is calm and contains everything I need around me. If you like the suburbs, this city is for you. The only downside is that the car definitely makes it easier to get around the city.

A lot has changed and the city is becoming a better place. I enjoyed growing up here and I feel my teachers cared about my education.

The city of Poughkeepsie is developed, but not very pedestrian and inexpensive. The city of Poughkeepsie is underdeveloped and often very dangerous.

Your experience in Poughkeepsie depends on which part you live in. From the outside this place is decent but once you get into town it's awful. It takes a lot of work. School is terrible, violence too. It's a dirty city and it's not quiet at all. Although it has beautiful parts like the Hudson River. Plus, the variety is huge. I wanted to make Poughkeepsie more family friendly and safe. As if there were no rules in this city. That's why people trespass on private property, throw garbage everywhere and show disrespect. The school does nothing to ensure the safety of its students, and crime is increasing day by day. I wish this city was cleaner and safer.

Many things could be better here. Poughkeepsie must work together to end gun violence among young people.

I've lived in Poughkeepsie since I was three. I think this city has everything you could want. It has interesting activities for children, good schools for both primary and secondary schools. Plenty of hiking opportunities within walking distance and lots of restaurants.

It's getting safer, but it can still be a little dangerous if you're not on campus. I go to school in Marist and try not to go to the city because I've been through terrible things.

It got better quickly, but recently it has changed drastically and not for the better. Crime is on the rise again and so is the number of homeless people.

Poughkeepsie is a beautiful area with many outdoor activities. It is a short distance from New York. There are many good restaurants where you can eat. Living costs are not very affordable.

The city itself is not well maintained. Maybe it used to be nice, but now it's neglected. However, the grounds around the secondary schools are well maintained.

Poughkeepsie sits on the beautiful Hudson River and overlooks the Catskills across the street. It has some lovely bars and restaurants if you prefer and some local colleges. Easily accessible by subway North and Amtrak from NYC!
